Clinical Lead and Senior Clinical Psychologist, Healthx Africa

John Kimura is a Clinical Lead and Senior Clinical Psychologist at Healthx Africa, where he leads clinical and health systems strategy, operations and partnerships for integrated, whole-person care, embedding mental health within core health services. He has over a decade of experience across clinical practice, humanitarian mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and senior operational leadership.

He previously led MHPSS system strengthening at the Kenya Red Cross Society, building mental health capacity within emergency and humanitarian response. Earlier, as Regional Head of Programs and Research for Africa, he shaped a medium-term strategy across the region.

A PhD candidate, John researches the feasibility, cost-effectiveness and policy frameworks for task-shifted neurocognitive screening in Kenya's primary care networks under Social Health Insurance. He brings clinical depth, organisational strategy and cross-sector leadership to global health agendas, guided by the conviction that mental health is not an add-on to health systems but part of their foundation.
