James Mukare

Journalist in training at Moi University

James Mukare is a journalist in training at Moi University. He grew up in a big, traditional Maasai family with ten kids, deeply connected to his community's Maa heritage.

He went to Oltepesi Primary School in Keekonyokie, moved on to Olkejuado High School, and is now studying at Moi University.

Watching his family navigate major personal, economic, and social hurdles over the years gave James a strong eye for human resilience. That experience, along with his time in the Shamiri program, shaped how he views the world.

He loves story-driven reporting and cares deeply about social change. His main goal as a journalist is simple: bring real focus to the communities and voices that usually get overlooked.
