Dr. Kairo Kimende

Deputy Director of Health, Murang'a County 

Dr. Kairo Kimende, MBChB, MMed, is a Kenyan physician, health systems leader, and health policy & implementation expert with over a decade of experience in health system strengthening, universal health coverage, primary healthcare, and digital health transformation. He serves as Deputy County Director of Health for Murang’a County, providing strategic leadership in health governance, service delivery, and primary healthcare reform. Dr. Kairo has spearheaded major health system innovations, including nine Smart Primary Healthcare Networks and digitalisation across 170 public health facilities, while advancing telemedicine and digital connectivity. He also co-led the rollout of the Kang’ata Care Universal Health Insurance Programme. A Family Medicine specialist, he holds a Master of Medicine from Havana, Cuba, and has served in senior clinical and health management roles. He is a Board Member of Equihealth Global, Adjunct Lecturer at AMREF International University, and national trainer in NCDs and ICD-10/11.
